The Situation

A business owner came to us facing an ATO debt of approximately $720,966.

The amount had accumulated over several years, creating significant financial pressure for the business.

The Challenge

Rather than simply accepting the balance as presented, we looked back through the client's records dating back to 2011.

Our review identified a potential discrepancy of almost $500,000 between the client's records and the amount reflected in the ATO records.

There were also more than $700,000 in interest and approximately $110,000 in penalties identified in the records being reviewed.

The Solution

We began the process of reviewing and challenging the figures, while seeking further clarification and a review of the interest and penalties.

The focus was on understanding how the debt had been calculated and determining what could potentially be addressed.

The Process

Review the records → Identify discrepancies → Understand how the debt was calculated → Challenge relevant figures → Seek review of interest and penalties.

The Takeaway

Large tax debts can involve years of records, interest and penalties. Before deciding what to do next, it can be worth taking a closer look at how the balance was calculated.

When the numbers can have a major impact on your future, it pays to understand exactly what you're dealing with.

Let's review your situation.
